The Sun

Golden leaves float effortlessly on the wind
Through the trees, in the autumn air, they descend
A new baby girl’s grasp, her father’s heart she shares
Through the window pane he show’s her the world with care
And for the first time, the sun greets her and she is brought to life.

Dark locks fall around her shoulders as she stands in the mirror
A tear in her mother’s eye, everyday her daughter grows dearer
She’s taller now, but innocence still precedes her
Anxiously she awaits the bus, a new step of which she’s not sure
But the familiar sun throws beams upon her face and there is hope.

Her car is strategically packed and the map is marked with her route
Worries for the future fill her head and heart with doubt
She sits on her bed and examines the empty room that she’s become so fond of
Then her family tightly embraces her and reassures her of their enduring love
The sun gently hits her as she drives away, promising a new dawn.

She stands in front of her mother searching for approval and care
She’s a vision, white gown gracing the floor and flowers peeking through her hair
“You’re beautiful,” she says as tears stream down both their faces
Her father walks her and then a ring on her finger, her beloved places.
And the sun watches, shining down on them with gladness.

The cold wind of a winter morn whips her hair as her husband helps her to the car
He quickens the pace at her groan, not much longer now, the hospital isn’t far
A restless kick from her belly causes her to wince with excitement and fear
They look at each other with a smile and a tear, a new chapter is drawing near
The sun peaks over the snowy hills to welcome this new life.

She’s gray now, a signature of wisdom and beautiful memories
Thankfulness floods her heart as she reads old diaries
Her life, like a good book, is worn with affection
This journey has been blessed despite its imperfection
And the sun, which she has come to love so much, never stopped shining upon her.

She now finds herself in a new and long-awaited place
Looking ahead, she falls and weeps as she sees His face
Oh how she has so sweetly dreamt of this moment
At last, the beautiful and perfect one offered for her atonement
And, as He had so many times before, the Son touches her face, bringing her warmth and life.
